There is a passage in the Bible (in Deuteronomy) that goes something like this:
God says, "I give you life and death, blessing and cursing... therefore choose life."
This passage has always been attractive to me because of it's embedded truth-beyond-logic.
If you think about it, there is no real logic to this passage. God gives the choice ("You can gave A or B...") and then says "Therefore choose A" without providing reasons for choosing option A.
In one of his early books ("Pulling Your Own Strings" I think), Wayne Dyer first brought the illogical nature of the passage to my attention when I was a teenager, long before I fully dove into the Bible and started my lifelong quest for truth, searching the scriptures.
Now, Jonathan Wells, in his blog "7 Vital Building Blocks of Confidence", has reminded me of this passage. In his article, he points out that confidence is self-perpetuating. When you choose confidence, it increases the odds of success, and this success leads to more confidence. If you choose to not feel confident, success is less likely, and this lack of success will probably cause you to feel even less confident.
It's a spiral either way. In one case, you're going up; in the other case, you're going down deeper into the pit.
What does this have to do with the Life/Death choice? There IS a connection... wait for it...
It's simply that happiness begets more happiness. Confidence begets more confidence and success. Choosing to embrace life and vitality begets more life. "To those who have, more is given; to those who have not, even what they have is taken away." When we embrace the good and focus on gratitude and success and life and confidence (our blessings), we are blessed with more of those blessings.
Jonathan goes on to offer 7 ways to choose and develop confidence. My favorites are #6 and #7, where he talks about adopting the identity of a confident person. He advises you to "Learn to view yourself as a successful person and attach feelings of approval to your positive experiences." (Check out Jonathan's great blogs on confidence at Advanced Life Skills... it's high quality, uplifting content).
And this is exactly the kind of thing I teach in my Creative Confidence seminar.
If you want to once-and-for-all choose confidence, and start spiraling up instead of down, I recommend that you pick a city and sign up for my 3-day workshop, before all the seats are taken. This is going to be an amazing weekend, and I'm limiting it to 20, so each and every person can experience many major breakthroughs.
