Take me up on this. The book is so awesome (everybody says so) that someday your signed copy will be worth a ga-zillion dollars. You'll see it auctioning at Christie's or making a big "to do" on Antiques Road Show. :)
After a fantastic 14th Anniversary whirlwind tour, I'm back at home in Redmond, WA... feeling high from getting into a peak learning state every day for the past 14 days!
Here's a video:
Remember the formula for creating change (from organizational development brought to us by attendee Deb (and Ford in the '80s):
D * V * F > R
Dissatisfaction times Vision times First Steps... is greater than RESISTANCE!!!
I'm home - YES! Feels good to be back, hanging out with the kids. I had so much fun over the last two weeks. I will give a full update soon.

(Watch Jason in the back, as I film this video - at one point he goes a little crazy on me, without me knowing it. This is why I love working with Team BP.)

Okay, I wrapped up with video post before I remembered to give you the 3 Ways to Overcoming Negative Self-Talk. (I told you that "good is good enough", right? It's true, and this blog video is living proof).
The 3 Tips are now below. Check out the video; Jason is even funnier than he is in the first video. Watch for his own inspired creative confidence. I'm so glad I hired this guy! See why in the video below.
BetterPhotoJim shares three techniques to instantly silence destructive self talk - those times when that little critique within tells you you're not good enough, too old, not disciplined, not as talented as others, a nobody, blah, blah, blah.
Learn three simple tricks that will help you control this destructive habit:
Earlier this week I took some time out from my Master the Mindset tour to visit with the good folks at Nik Software, creators of some great photo enhancement programs.
Scott Shepherd, the on-air personality at Nik Radio, really “got” what we’re about at BetterPhoto.com and what I’m trying to create in my workshops on the road: empowering people to wake up each day, FEELING ON TOP OF THE WORLD and in charge of their creative potential.
We’re all ripples in the same glorious pond, crossing paths and affecting each other in wonderful and unexpected ways. Often we’re unaware of the powerful effects we can have on people.
Here are two great examples. The first is a little video clip where Emily explains that my first book on photography was the first book she EVER checked out of the library! That made me smile.
The next example is a story that Dorothy Ferriera sent along a few days after attending a Master the Mindset workshop. This story is such a gift!
“I really enjoyed the MM program last week. I thought it was great to take the time to focus on ME for the day and really think about where I am going and what I want to be doing and how I am doing it. Jim was great and inspirational. His enthusiasm is very motivating and just fun to be around. What is great is that I was able to bring a few things he spoke about and techniques he demonstrated home to my dad and father in law who are living with me. My father in law is in his mid seventies and suffering from depression. You should see him saying, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" in Jim's way now. I am using it to help bring some more energy into his attitude and focus. “
My Master the Mindset tour has been an adventure in healing and soul-sustenance for me, as stories like this make it so worthwhile. Thank you Dorothy, Emily, and all the other workshop participants who are throwing yourselves 100% into the process of creative self-improvement.
Never underestimate the power you have to affect people in positive ways – and don’t hesitate to tell others about how they have affected you!
What if you realized you were only using 20% of your creative capacity, and that the other 80% was not simply lying fallow, but actually keeping itself busy by putting obstacles in your way?
What if you learned that in one action-packed day you could uncover and defuse those obstacles, turning that 80% of creative capacity into your ally and resource?
I’ve given a ton of technical advice and constructive criticism to photographers. It helps, sometimes a lot. But I’m convinced that I’m only addressing the top 20% of their creative iceberg this way. 80% of our creative fire power is frozen in our noggins – in what we tell ourselves, our beliefs, our habits, our language… our MINDSET.
That’s why I’m on the road now with my program designed to melt that iceberg and ignite the creative fire.
The 14-day Whirlwind Tour is drawing to a close. On Saturday the 24th there are several openings at the workshop in beautiful Monterey, CA. I want to fill every seat! I want to see you there! I want to watch you catch fire!
One of the greatest rewards during my Master the Mindset tour is to see people begin to dissolve their blocks and fears and move into a "success" mindset, right before my eyes.
Their breakthroughs in the seminar room may be dramatic or subtle. In either case, we acknowledge we're simply taking the first steps in an ongoing process. The transformations begun in the workshop room keep growing and blossoming long after we've spent our joyful day together.
One of my seminar participants this week gave us a classic example of this ongoing process. You can literally listen to Irene's growth as she changes her language in midstream, listening to herself in a new way: changing her mindset.
No doubt about it, this is life-changing stuff!
Of course, Irene and the others I've met with in my Whirlwind Tour have all taken a giant step to begin with -- the hardest one, in fact.
"The hard part is not taking pictures. The hard part is walking out the door."
We're half way through our breakthrough tour, experiencing and witnessing so much transformation we almost can't stand it! This is life-changing stuff.
Here's my next tip for you all back at home. This is a book you have to get. In The War of Art, Steven Pressfield talks about Resistance and Fear. I sum up with "Jim's True Rule of Direction":
"I'm afraid of it"
"I MUST do it!"
Enjoy this most-recent video blog installment. My Flip video camera ran out of storage space before I was done but I was able to get the main recommendation out before that happened. (Once again, I beat Resistance!!!) Have fun:
