I unwrapped Frank Kern's "Mass Control" today. I gotta say, I like this guy. Creative, funny, the real deal... my wife says he needs to wash his hair. But I think that's part of the point he's trying to make about being your authentic self. It's either that or it's part of his brand, or both.
Either way, he's cool.
(If you haven't heard of Frank, go to MassControl.com or Google "Frank Kern, John Reese, and Tony Robbins" to watch a recent video of these three.)
In the initial video in Mass Control, Frank talks about what he calls Core Influence and shares how answering one question changed his life. The question, to paraphrase, goes something like this:
If there were no limits or consequences, what would your average ideal day be like?I've done a lot of goal brainstorming techniques but I appreciate how this differs from most.
Instead of thinking about what you want to have (possess) or which goals you want to achieve, simply paint out your day. And make it your average day... not the day you are one of the first to ride up into space in one of Richard Branson's galactic fleet. Or the day you win the lottery. Space flight every single day might get boring or bad... "too much of a good thing". And while winning the lottery on every average day might sound lucrative, it would suck. But we'll talk about that later.
For now, just describe what your average day is like, in your ideal life experience:
- How would you wake up?
- What would you do first?
- Where would you be?
- What would breakfast be like?
- Who would you interact with?
- ---
- All the way to: How would you wind down at the end of the day?
- What would be on your mind just before you go to sleep?
Make up your own specific questions... Let your mind wander through this day and describe the experience in vivid detail. Remember, no limits about money, time, what others think/need/want. And, as long as you're not hurting yourself or others, don't worry about "getting into trouble." What do you dream of.
So let's do it! I'm going to work on this today, putting a couple hours into it and coming up with both words and images (ripped out of magazines, etc.) that paint this picture.
Let's compare notes tomorrow.
Hi Jim, I just wanted to let you know that I am following your "76 Days to Selfless Success". I am catching up on the last couple of days, but intend to read through each day. Thank you for your transparency and honesty. This is such an encouragement.
