The following is an example of the Ideal Day assignment... I hope it inspires you with a few ideas for your own ideal day. May every day of your life be happy and blessed.
***
Before dawn, my feet hit the (warm) floor and - first things first - I spend time thanking God and focusing on the awesomeness of the Divine for a while. Prayer is enlightening, warm, recharging, insightful, grounding.
We wake with the sun, ocean waves crashing in the background. (Or, in summer, I enjoy the first light on the trees here near Seattle).
I walk while reading, my heart rate is up while my mind is being nourished.
A 30-minute Wii makes me feel stretched and strong, energized and confident. And it’s fun!
A 30-minute review of previously studied material increases my confidence as I start the day.
Breakfast with D and the kids is fun and noisy - with a healthy fruit shake or an energy drink. It’s warm and sunny.
Work is focused. I have a blast writing my blog, my books, my scripts. Uninterrupted, focused writing time for a good 2-4 hours, at least.
Lunch is outside in a warm, wisteria draped setting, with beautiful classical guitar music. The yard is clutter-free, but still fun for the kids.
My clients are my friends – people I really love and feel compassion and empathy and genuine admiration for… people I love to be around. They are:
- Positive
- Creative
- Fun in a healthy non-addictive and humble way
- Funny, again in the loving way
They're frustrated by being “almost there” with fitness and finances, etc. They go to growth and self-development seminars. For a living, they do something creative and fun, smart and truly contributing.
I hand my notes and/or recording to a fantastic assistant for inputting into The System I Trust. I hand any new photos to my friend and assistant who rocks in Lightroom and Photoshop and loves organizing and image-editing.
I end my work day recording a quick video for the enthusiasts I serve, and then pass it on to another friend - someone who really knows me and knows video editing so they can edit it with ease and great skill.
I review brief updates on growing numbers and positive culture in my businesses. Minimal input required. I communicate with my team any new ideas of the day – a photo book, a quote book, etc – and they are on it... gathering, organizing, generating material for me to review and edit.
My team is amazing. I'm surrounded by Super Stars!
More afternoon experience out on the deck in summer – playing guitar and/or playing with the kids. At other times, when at the beach, the afternoon is spent building sandcastles or playing in the sand or warm waves with D and the kids.
Dinner with the family - kids are polite and energetic; delightful and warm; respectful and full of life. We celebrate the day and being together and how we’ve enjoying reflecting God’s love. Denise and I make dinner together, and clean up together – in a lovely kitchen - and it's a delightful time together. The time with Alex and Alina and Julian is awesome - hearing what they have to teach us, doing video/photo or making albums or movies together. Listening and looking and appreciating. The day is punctuated with deep, real, insightful conversation or games (maybe a few video games).
Storytime is fun for me - something I love to read - as well as being fun for the little ones. After storytime, we sing a hymn or two – in a fun, real, natural way.Winding down time after singing... we alternate between movie nights and nights of reading/game-playing/connecting conversation (not about work).
We're celebrating life.
We're living an authentic life – doing what we love.
I feel loved.
Denise feels loved.
We all feel FREE.
Hi, Jim--
I've been reading your blog whenever
I get a chance & want to send you
my support & friendship! Thanks for
sharing a part of your journey with us!
I'm reminded of a film I saw recently,
"Julie & Julia" (which inspired me). It's
the true story of a woman who set herself
a 365 day challenge & blogged about her
experiences every day & then it was turned
into a book & a movie. I found her story really inspirational & uplifting! I look forward to hearing more about your experiences during your 76 day experiment & also look forward to reading your book when it comes out!!! All the best! Margaret

Margaret, thank you so much for your comments and for emailing me. Without you, I may never have realized my comments were not "sticking". Feedback is truly a wonderful thing!
And yes, I LOVED that movie. First of all, I fell for Amy Adams when I saw "Enchanted" - she and Meryl totally knocked it out the park. And the writing, directing, everything... I too found it inspiring.
Thanks again for touching base and sending your support and friendship. Much appreciated.
