In transit today - heading from Seattle to New York, I saw more than a few marathon runners. About 30-40,000 marathoners are heading to New York. On November 1st, while me and my friends will be photographing the city, these ultra runners will be taking on the big challenge and, if they're successful, getting a medal as well as the thrill of achievement.
One runner that I met today said that "90% of it is getting to the start line."
The START line!
I thought about that for a moment and then realized that this statement is true with everything we do. So much of the game is just getting to the point where we take the first step.
Many of you took the first step several days ago when you identified a skill you wanted to improve and an action you needed to take... the first step.
How is your skill development going? Have you taken subsequent steps? If not, what is the next thing you can do? Just one thing...
Can you incorporate a recurring (and fun) step into your weekly or daily routine?
If so, you are beginning to shape that first step into a habit. And that's the ticket... the way to long-lasting success. I find that working it into my morning routine is what works for me... when I am still relatively in control of my day.
You can do it too! Get to the start line... it's all downhill from there.
