Photographic Impressions of a Rock Star

I am reading Martha Stewart's recent book about success in business, and something she wrote really hit a chord. It's an important lesson and I see beginning photography enthusiasts making this mistake all too often. To paraphrase, she said that no one will know of your disasters unless you tell them.

No one will know of your disasters until you inform them of these mistakes. So the rule is to simply keep your mouth closed (and throw away the key) when you feel tempted to badmouth your own work.

Another example: watching Rock Star Supernova recently, a contestant did a fantastic job covering a great song. Immediately after the song, in front of the judges, the first thing he said was "Sorry about coming in late - I don't know what happened there." He did not have to say that and I will bet many, many people had no idea he came in late until he informed them of the mistake.

In our course, we learn in photography by picking apart both our successes and our disasters, but outside of this safe, learning environment, it's best to act as if you meant to get the photo you got. You're the first person your viewers are listening to, in their efforts to learn Photo Appreciation 101.

Hello BetterPhoto Fans!

Have you seen the new search function in the upper right of any BetterPhoto page? Look for the field next to the little magnifying glass and try it out!

Up until today, we have not had the functionality for members to search for each other. Now, with a greatly enhanced search function, members can find other members! You asked for it, you got it!

I am so grateful for the help of BetterPhoto Team members Jay and Tori - who dropped everything to help bring this improvement to fruition.

Next up... we will make it so you can mark other members and photos as "favorites", so you can easily keep track of your favorite BetterPhoto members and their work. And that is just one of many fun, new surprises we have in store for you (well, I supposed it's not a surprise anymore :)
